Antara, Jakarta – Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita will evaluate the electric motorcycle incentive regulation following the public's low interest in purchasing the electric vehicle.
So far, the minister is still at a loss concerning the reason for the low interest in electric motorcycles in Indonesia despite the Rp7,000,000 subsidy.
"We will evaluate the cause. We'll examine the government's assistance for electric cars and electric motorcycles. We will look for room for improvements," said the minister as quoted by Tempo from Antara on Friday, July 28, 2023.
Further, the Industry Minister explained that the ministry will evaluate all aspects of the problem, from the policy, price, scheme, and distribution pattern. He hoped the ministry could implement some of the aspects this year.
However, the minister did not elaborate on when the evaluation of the electric motorcycle incentive policy will be conducted. Therefore, the public also has no idea when the evaluation is concluded.
"Soon," said Agus. "We want to make sure that the government's assistance for electric cars and motorcycles could be implemented that's why we will conduct the evaluation."
According to the SISAPIRa website, there are still 198,791 unsold electric motorcycle units on Thursday, July 27, 2023, despite the government's target of 200,000 sold electric motorcycles this year.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati explained that the government has prepared an incentive budget for electric motorcycles amounting to Rp7 trillion for the 2023-2024 period.
