Septia Ryanthie, Sukoharjo – Demand for domestic soybean seeds remains high to this day but has not been matched by sufficient soybean seed production, which was an issue that arose during a state official visit of the Central Java Agriculture and Forestry Agency to a local soybean seed processing plant in Sukoharjo, Central Java, on June 6.

This government visit initially scheduled the presence of Agriculture Ministry Syahrul Yasin Limpo but the plan was scrapped.

Head of the Central Java Agriculture and Forestry Agency Supriyanto lauded the existence of the soybean seed modern processing plant run by PT Permata Putra Pasifik.

"This is amazing for the fact that an investor or business dares to enter the field of soybean seed supply, such as PT Permata Putra Pasifik," said Supriyanto in his acceptance speech.

Supriyanto hopes that with the plant's operation, soybean seed production, especially in the Sukoharjo Regency area, can be optimized to meet the community's need for soybeans.

"Our need for soybean seeds, for the area of Central Java Province, if for example, our area is 60,000 multiplied by 50 kilograms, there will be 3,000 tons needed," he said.

"There is only one (soybean seed producer) in Central Java, with the production of only around 1,000- 1,500 tons, even though Central Java's soybean seed products are for national standards. This is why we are always running out of supply," said Supriyanto.
