President inaugurates Rp820 billion Tamblang Dam in Bali

M Julnis Firmansyah, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo on Thursday inaugurated the Tamblang Dam located in Buleleng, Bali. The dam which cost up to Rp820 billion was first constructed in 2018.

"The budget spent to build this dam amounted to Rp 820 billion. That's a lot of money," Jokowi said during the inauguration broadcasted on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube.

The Tamblang Dam has a capacity of 5.1 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 29.8 hectares. With this capacity, the dam will hopefully irrigate 588 hectares of rice fields.

"This dam's purpose is to irrigate rice fields, the second purpose is to reduce flooding," Jokowi said.

The Tamblang Dam is one of the nine dams that are targeted to be completed by the end of 2022. Expert Staff to the Minister for Technology, Industry and Environment of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Endra S. Atmawidjaja, stated that of the nine dams, five dams have been completed, namely: Semantok Dam in Nganjuk, Ciawi Dam in Bogor, Dam Sukamahi in Bogor, Sila Banyan Dam in Sumbawa, and Tamblang Dam.
