Antara, Jakarta – The Acsenahumanis Response Foundation reported Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) regarding the alleged misuse of aid for earthquake victims. Herman reportedly utilized humanitarian aid for his personal and party interests.
In a written statement, the foundation stated that the aid came from the Emirates Red Crescent, consisting of 2,000 blankets, 25 tons of rice, 1,000 hygiene packages, 500 solar-powered lamps, and battery chargers for tents.
According to them, Herman changed the aid's packages and then sold them on the market.
"The Regent cut the SOP (standard operating procedure) created by BNPB (National Disaster Mitigation Agency) and repackaged the aid," said the foundation in a statement received Monday, December 26, 2022.
"What used to be donations from international organizations were changed to look like from a political party and some were sold to the market. This means that the regent used his authority to cut the aid distribution and repackage the aid in other forms then sell it to the market," the report explained.
The anti-graft body confirmed the report. The KPK's Head of the Reporting Section, Ali Fikri, stated that his side would investigate the case.
"We will immediately follow it up by reviewing and verifying it to ensure that the report is complete. We are also exploring information regarding this matter," said Ali on Monday, December 26, 2022.
