Antara, Jakarta – The Mount Rinjani National Park Agency put 5,000 hikers on the blacklist and barred them from climbing up the mountain in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) for two years.

"There are 5,000 people who are on the blacklist from 2020-2021," said the agency head Dedy Asriady on Thursday, March 31.

The no-climbing list, Dedy informed, contains names of people who did not comply with the rules, such as not bringing down their trash when they return. Most of them were local residents, but some hailed from outside the region.

He explained that every climber is required to register their data including their luggage that potentially becomes trash in the e-Rinjani app. "There is an inspection using e-Rinjani. They will be asked to register their waste data [before hiking] and when they return, they are checked again," Dedy informed.

The agency always reminds every hiker to bring down their trash so as not to pollute the national park area. "We prefer to keep the mountain clean, rather than allowing many people to climb and the mountain is polluted by trash," Dedy remarked.

The Mount Rinjani National Park Agency has reopened the mountain for hikers since March 16, 2022, at a maximum visit quota of 50 percent. The mountain is available for three-day-two-night trips as regulated in the regulation of the Director-General of Conservation of Natural Resources Ecosystem Conservation at the Environment and Forestry Ministry.
