Lani Diana Wijaya, Jakarta – The Indonesian Employers Association of Jakarta (Apindo Jakarta) has officially filed a lawsuit against Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan over the revision of the 2022 provincial minimum wage (UMP).

"[We demand Anies] declare the Gubernatorial Decree (Kepgub) No. 1517 of 2021 on 2022 provincial minimum wage dated Dec. 16, 2021, null and void," as read in the lawsuit quoted by Tempo from the Jakarta Administrative Court website on Monday, Jan. 17.

Anies issued Kepgub 1571/2021 noting that this year's Jakarta minimum wage would increase by 5.1 percent from the 2021 UMP or Rp225,667 to Rp4,641,854. This regulation is a revision of the Gubernatorial Decree 1395/2021 which stipulated that the 2022 UMP would only be increased by 0.85 percent or Rp37,000.

Apindo also asked Anies to revoke the regulation and re-enact Gubernatorial Decree 1395/2021.

Jakarta Apindo deputy chairperson Nurjaman said the businessmen's lawsuit against the Jakarta government was not intended to attack Anies Baswedan, but rather to obtain legal certainty as there was a discrepancy between the Gubernatorial Decree 1517/2021 and the Central Government Regulation No. 36 of 2021 on the formulation of UMP.

"The problem is that there is no firmness for the business world. So it's not a polemic between Apindo and the Jakarta Government, but between the Jakarta Government and the central government," said Nurjaman to Tempo on Sunday, January 16.
