Jakarta records 271 Omicron cases; 40 local transmissions

M Julnis Firmansyah, Lani Diana, Jakarta – Patients of Covid-19 Omicron variant in Jakarta per January 7, increased to 271 people from 252 on the previous day.

"Of the 271 infected people, 87.1 percent was international travelers," said Jakarta Health Department of disease prevention and control, Dwi Oktavia, in a written statement Friday, January 7.

Dwi said that 40 people infected with Omicron were locally transmitted. She calls on the public to be aware of its transmission following the increase of cases.

On January 6, the Omicron patients with local transmission were recorded at 13 people of the total 252 cases. Meanwhile, the imported case was 239 people. They are being treated at Wisma Atlet Jakarta and RSPI Sulianti Saroso, North Jakarta.

The total active cases in the capital city, Dwi went on, reached 1,394 as of January 7. The case finding was still donimated by international travelers. "Plase note that 1,082 people of active cases were international travelers," she explained.

Jakarta deputy governor Ahmad Riza Patria said that the Christmas and New Year holidays was one of the causes of the rising Covid-19 cases in Jakarta. To date, the Coronavirus active cases have reached over 1,000.
