Dewi Nurita, Jakarta – The Indonesian Covid-19 task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito in a statement on Wednesday revealed that the majority of Indonesians, 86.6 percent to be exact, have formed a commendable Covid-19 antibody that is gained either from vaccinations or prior infections.

The data comes from a latest serological survey conducted in 100 regencies and cities in agglomeration and non-agglomeration areas for two months from November to December 2021.

"Data also shows other information that 73.2 percent of the population in the surveyed regions had formed antibodies despite having no records of vaccinations and confirmed coronavirus infections," Wiku wrote on January 5.

The survey was conducted by the Home Affairs Ministry in conjunction with the Health Ministry.

Wiku did not elaborate on the cause of the high amount of collective antibodies but reminded the public to remain alert about the current situation. He said 2022 is a new chapter in Indonesia's pandemic handling after surviving two Covid-19 spikes in the past two years.

"Our challenges ahead involve facing the emergence of new variants, which will surely continue to arise as long as the virus is given the opportunity to transmit itself to others," said the Covid-19 spokesperson.
