Statistics Indonesia: Foreign tourist visit jumps 76.3% in July 2021

Hendartyo Hanggi, Jakarta – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded that from the total of 138,970 foreign tourist visits in July 2021, the arrival of international tourists in the country using air travel reached 7,180 people. The figure increased by 76.33 percent year on year.

"[That is] compared to the number of visits in July 2020 which amounted to 4,070 people," said the agency's deputy for statistics distribution and services, Setianto, in a virtual press conference, Wednesday, September 1.

Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten reported the highest hike in foreign tourist arrivals at 75.25 percent, from 3,120 visits in July 2020 to 5,470 visits in July 2020.

Meanwhile, several airports recorded a significant drop, namely Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali and Lombok International Airport in West Nusa Tenggara, up to 100 percent, while Kualanamu Airport in North Sumatra and Juanda Airport in East Java saw a decline of 58.82 percent and 31.58 percent, respectively.

The agency also recorded that the number of foreign arrivals from January to July 2021 was only 937,750. The figure sharply dropped by 71.42 percent compared to the same period last year at 3.28 million visits.

"From January to July 2021, the arrival of foreign tourists by air transport amounted to 77,470, by sea transport at 266,500, and by land transport at 593,780," Setianto outlined.
