Yudha Baskoro, Jakarta – Hundreds of Indonesian Workers Union Confederation, or KSPI, members have held a protest outside the United Nations (UN) building in Central Jakarta on Tuesday to show solidarity and support for Palestinians in their latest violent clash with Israel.
Protesters gathered at Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue in the National Monument complex around 10.00 a.m. before making their way to the UN building at Jalan M.H Thamrin. After a short speech, protesters march to the United States Embassy Building at Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.
Protestors demanded Israel stop military aggression against Palestine, particularly in Gaza, as recommended by the UN Security Council. They also demanded the Indonesian government to push the American government and the UN to force Israel to withdraw soldiers, police, and all forms of armed threats from the Al-Aqsa Mosque. They consider that what happened in Palestine is humanity's worst tragedy.
The protest was attended by 25,000 KSPI members and held simultaneously in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, Gorontalo, Maluku, North Maluku, East Java such as Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Mojokerto, Pasuruan, and Gresik, Central Java such as Semarang, Kendal, Demak, Jepara, Kudus. Then in West Java such as Bandung, Bekasi, Karawang, Purwakarta, Subang Cianjur, Bogor Depok, Banten and DKI Jakarta.
