Muhammad Hendartyo, Jakarta – Trade Ministry's secretary-general Suhanto on Friday, Jan, 22, said beef supplies available in the market suffice Indonesia's national need. The government guarantees that it will remain that way.

"The beef supply is enough to fulfill the national requirement. The ministry continues to maintain supplies to enable people's access towards the commodity," wrote Suhanto in Thursday's written statement.

Beef traders in Jakarta and its satellite cities; Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi, announced a mass-strike following the recent rise in beef prices. The strike was reportedly to start from January 20 to 22.

Traders joining the strike were members of the Indonesian Beef Traders Association (APDI) after holding a meeting with stakeholders and policymakers discussing beef prices in the market. They deemed it necessary as the increased prices have affected the beef prices at the traders' level.
