Antara, Jakarta – Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini or Risma initiated a breakthrough by making identity cards for street buskers, homeless people, and other marginal people in Jakarta.

"We target [to create ID] for 1,600 people, at least 100 people a day," said Risma while inspecting the population data and the opening of bank accounts for marginalized people at Aneka Bhakti Building of the Social Affairs Ministry in Jakarta, Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Risma argued that ID ownership is necessary as the government's social assistance is provided to residents in need according to their address and ID.

Social Affairs Ministry's Director-General of Social Rehabilitation, Harry Hikmat, informed that marginalized groups had not had access to social assistance since they did not have clear data thus far.

"With citizenship identification numbers (NIK), they will obtain assistance regardless of their place, and the access to banking will also be easier," Harry explained, adding that 16,000 marginalized people in several regions, particularly in big cities, would be facilitated for the IDs.
