Dewi Nurita, Jakarta – The national COVID-19 task force on Tuesday said that the upcoming year-end holidays can potentially cause confirmed cases to increase exponentially.

"We need to be reminded that the 2020 year-end lengthy holidays are feared to manifest into increased [infection cases] that are two to three folds," said the task force spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito in a virtual conference on November 24.

Wiku cited previous holiday seasons as proof and valuable evaluation for the government in making policies, which refers to the Eid al FItr holidays that cause positive COVID-19 cases to rise 69-93 percent on June 28.

The worst came during the Indonesian Independence Day holidays from August 20-August 23 which sparked confirmed cases to grow 58-118 percent in early September.

Wiku Adisasmito once again reminded the government to reflect on the aforementioned holiday periods before deciding to implement further national holidays as December arrives.
