M Rosseno Aji, Jakarta – The National Association of University Student Executive Bodies (BEM SI) is set to hold another round of protests against the omnibus law on job creation on Wednesday, October 28, with a predicted 1,000 students participating in the street protest.
"There will be no more than 1,000 protesters," said BEM SI coordinator, Remy Hastian, on October 28.
According to Remy, the protests will be staged in Central Jakarta, mainly concentrated at the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue located in West Merdeka street a stone's throw from Jakarta's national monument (Monas).
BEM SI demands President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo to immediately issue a regulation in lieu of law or Perpu to annul the job creation law.
This same day that coincides with the Youth Pledge Day [Sumpah Pemuda], the labor union GEBRAK and the Indonesian People's Faction (FRI) announced they will hold a rally at Central Jakarta's Tugu Proklamasi [proclamation monument].
The peaceful rally by GEBRAK and FRI will be filled with political orations, poetry recital sessions, theatrical plays, musical performances, and the recital of 'the 2020 people's pledge' in an attempt to convey their rejection against the omnibus law on job creation.
