Egi Adyatama, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, said that the Omnibus Law, or the Job Creation Law, which was recently enacted by the House of Representatives, is for the people.

"The Job Creation Law is made to respond to people's complaints, laborers, that the government is slow in handling the business licensing process. The regulations are overlapping," Mahfud said in a press conference at his office on Thursday, October 8, 2020.

Mahfud said that the Job Creation Law has been under discussion for a long time. Even in the House of Representatives, he said that all fractions have expressed their opinion. The government, Mahfud said, has repeatedly discuss with labour unions. The discussions were done at the Ministry of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs' office.

Mahfud denied that the government was deliberately drafting a law that burdens its people. The Job Creation Law, Mahfud said, also provides large employment opportunities of the people. Mahfud added that the Job Creation Law will also help in eradicating corruption.

"So the Law is not only for laborers who are now demonstrating, but also for those who still cannot be laborers. For the future workforce. Laborers right, in general, laborers rights are generally undisturbed," said Mahfud.
