Andita Rahma, Jakarta – The National Police's traffic corps will officially limit the number of passengers allowed in a vehicle that is adamant to travel back to Indonesian rural areas, commonly referred to as 'mudik' or the mass-homecoming. This is said to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Traffic corps chief, Insp. Gen. Istiono gave examples of sedans that will be limited to a maximum of two people and people carriers such as SUVs will be limited to three people. "Meanwhile, for those who have no option but to travel by motorcycle, they will not be allowed to ride in tandem," said the police chief today.

Apart from limiting passengers aboard vehicles, Istiono said police have established multiple police posts that will be able to handle coronavirus cases and refer people to the closest hospital that can handle the virus.

The traffic corps reminds people about the risk homecomers face in terms of coronavirus and asserts that those who travel to their hometowns will immediately be given the 'person under monitoring' status or ODP and will be required to commit to self-isolation for a minimum of 14-days.
