Jakarta (Antara) – Supreme Court (MA) panel of judges on October 30, 2019, rejected the appeal of palm oil firm PT Waringin Agro Jaya (PT WAJ) and ordered the company to pay for compensation regarding the restoration process amounting to Rp466,468,991.700.

The Environment and Forestry Ministry's Director-General of Law, Environment, and Forestry (Gakkum), Rasio Ridho Sani said on Thursday that PT WAJ had been found guilty by the South Jakarta District Court for burning 1,802 hectares back in 2014.

The court verdict sought PT WAJ to pay Rp173,468,991,700 for material losses and environment restoration up to Rp293,000,000,000. The firm followed the verdict by submitting a cassation appeal on February 14, 2018, which was rejected by the Supreme Court on October 30, 2019.

"We are currently gathering information of PT WAJ's assets that acts as supporting data to be handed to the District Court judge so they can continue to conduct confiscation," said Rasio Ridho.
