Adam Prireza, Jakarta – The Metro Jaya Police claims to have sent home each and every high schooler and college students who were nabbed in police's massive detainment following the students' street protest on September 30.
"We have sent home the students, university and high school, there were also middle school students. They were all picked up by their parents," said Metro Jaya Spokesman Grand Commissioner Argo Yuwono on Thursday, October 3.
Argo Yuwono explains that police investigators are still questioning people involved in the protest that are not students. Those still under police detainment are believed to have vandalized public facilities.
"The non-students are being checked. They resisted authorities, destroyed [police posts], ruined police shields and police vehicles," said the police officer who maintained that students who committed the same crime had been sent to their parents.
The Metro Jaya Police previously detained 519 individuals in the September 30th street protest that ended up in an all-out riot between some groups of protesters and police members. The uprising was initially driven by university students on September 24 against many Bills the House of Representatives (DPR) hastily attempts to pass as laws.
