Jakarta – The government on Monday announced the various fares for app-base ojek (motorcycle taxis) in a bid to end the disputes between the drivers and ride-hailing providers that have led to protests by drivers in many parts of the country.
Transportation Ministry Land Transportation Director General Budi Setiyadi told a press briefing in Jakarta on Monday that the fares, which were stipulated in a new ministerial decree, would be differentiated into three zones.
The first zone covers Sumatra, Bali and most of Java, the second zone is Greater Jakarta and the third zone is Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua.
The minimum fares have been set at Rp 1,850 (13 US cents), Rp 2,000 and Rp 2,100 per kilometer for the first, second and third zones respectively, while the maximum fares were set at Rp 2,300, Rp 2,500 and Rp 2,600.
Meanwhile, the base fares for services of less 4 kilometers were set at Rp 7,000 to Rp 10,000 for the first and third zones and from Rp 8,000 to Rp 10,000 for the second zone.
Budi said the new fares were an increase of 11 percent to 20 percent on the previous rates imposed by ride-haling application providers.
"These are net fees that the drivers must receive," he said, adding that the providers could charge customers up to 20 percent more.
Budi said the new fares would take effect on May 1 to give ride-hailing providers time to adjust to the new regulations. He said the ministry would evaluate the fares every three months.
The ministry issued Transportation Ministerial Regulation No. 12/2019 last week, which details the rules on safety. (ars/bbn)
