Yusuf Manurung, Inge Klara, Jakarta – The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) recorded children mostly became victims to cases involving online prostitution and exploitation in 2018 with a total of 264 cases including child trafficking.

"80 cases of children becoming the victims of prostitution and 75 cases of exploitation," said KPAI Commissioner on child trafficking and exploitation Ai Maryati Solihah to Tempo on Thursday.

Moreover, KPAI received reports on 57 cases of child sexual exploitations and 52 cases of child trafficking last year.

Based on the cases, Ai argues that many social media platforms available today has vulnerably exposed children to prostitution practices

Ai's statement follows the recent police finding of online prostitution activity in the form of a live-streamed pornography activity spread across chat-app Line group known as "Show Time". This group is known to have 400-500 members that involve minors.

Many of the group's members were not forced into this illegal group but had actually involved themselves in this Line live stream porn for personal financial gains.
