Padang, West Sumatra – Padang-based biscuit maker PT Asia Megah Biskuit has halted operations since Dec. 22 last year after a series of demonstrations by its more than 600 workers.
The workers are demanding the firm's general manager and production manager be fired for unspecified offenses.
At least 100 workers from the company arrived at the local legislative council building on Monday to air their complaints. A representative for the workers, Jufri Rafles, said around 600 employees of PT Asia Biskuit would lose their jobs if the dispute was not resolved.
Padang Legislative Council deputy head Panji Alam encouraged company owners not to close operations in Padang. "This is the last big company still operating in Padang. Other big companies have already shut down their operations," Panji said.
