Mutia Yuantisya, Jakarta – Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower has recorded around 43,000 layoffs through June 2026, as the government continues to monitor labor market developments and prepare mitigation measures to curb further job losses across various business sectors.

"Until June, around 43,000 layoff cases have been recorded. Through employment data published every month by the Ministry of Manpower, we continue to monitor the movement of layoff figures," Head of the Ministry's Manpower Planning and Development Agency, Anwar Sanusi, told reporters at the Labor Market Center Building in South Jakarta on Monday, June 29, 2026.

Anwar said the ministry tracks layoff trends through its monthly employment data system. Based on the latest figures, the number of layoffs has increased compared with the previous month.

However, the government continues to update and verify the data to ensure the published figures accurately reflect conditions on the ground.

According to Anwar, the rising number of layoffs has become a major concern for the government. As a result, the Ministry of Manpower is not only focused on collecting and verifying data but is also preparing a range of mitigation measures to prevent further job losses across industries.

One of the government's main strategies is to strengthen social dialogue among workers, employers, and the government. The initiative aims to help companies facing business challenges find alternatives to layoffs and preserve employment.

In addition, Anwar said the ministry is intensifying coordination with businesses and labor unions to encourage dialogue in resolving labor disputes. The government is also taking into account recommendations from various stakeholders, including special advisers to the government, when formulating policies to address layoffs.

He expressed hope that these measures would help maintain stable industrial relations while safeguarding employment opportunities amid ongoing economic challenges.
