Chandra Adi Nurwidya, Yogyakarta – Police are investigating a daycare center in Yogyakarta after reports of alleged child abuse triggered public concern on social media.
Authorities raided the facility, identified as Little Aresha daycare in the Sorosutan area of Umbulharjo district, on Friday. The premises have since been cordoned off with police tape, indicating an ongoing investigation.
Local police have yet to issue an official statement on the case or confirm whether any suspects have been identified.
The incident gained traction online, prompting anxiety among parents. Residents living near the daycare said the facility appeared normal from the outside, with parents regularly dropping off their children.
However, a neighbor, Lia, said children's cries were frequently heard from inside the building.
"The crying could be heard from our house, almost every day. We thought it was normal," she said.
Another parent, Bella Salsabila, said she had previously enrolled her child at the daycare about 18 months ago but withdrew after two months due to signs of distress.
"My child became traumatized, cried constantly and refused to go back," she said, adding that her child had complained about being hit by other children.
Bella said she had raised the issue with the daycare operator at the time, who acknowledged the incidents.
