Jakarta – The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) has revealed the alleged identities and roles of the 16 perpetrators of the acid attack on the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus.
Ravio Patra, an independent researcher collaborating with TAUD in investigating the attempted premeditated murder, has grouped the perpetrators into an execution team (consisting of OTK 1-OTK 5), a close-range surveillance team (OTK 6-OTK 10), a command team (OTK 11-OTK 13) and a long-range surveillance team (OTK 14-OTK 16).
TAUD also revealed the faces of the alleged perpetrators of the acid attack. "So, there are 16 OTK [unknown individuals]. We divided them into four groups", Patra said at a press conference in South Jakarta on Thursday April 9.
OTK 1 was the motorcycle driver for the person who threw the acid; OTK 2 was the one who threw the acid; OTK 3 was the motorcyclist who pushed up against Yunus during the execution; OTK 4 was the location scanner using digital equipment; and OTK 5 was the execution escort.
Then from the close-range surveillance team, OTK 6 through OTK 10 were stationed at the Megaria bus stop, the Megaria bus stop, the Jalan Mendut post, the Jalan Mendut post and the Diponegoro Park post.
Next, OTK 11 was the local guide (location scouting); OTK 12 was the field coordinator; and OTK 13 was the location scout.
From the long-range surveillance team, OTK 14 through to OTK 16 were stationed at the Jalan Kimia post.
"We will review several videos the purpose being to show you the case events of that night, that day in more detail and in sequence", said Patra while playing several videos obtained from CCTV cameras located in the area where the acid attack was carried out.
Patra noted a discrepancy in the timing of two CCTV cameras, with durations of approximately 3 minutes and 10 minutes respectively.
"Besides the YLBHI CCTV Camera 01 (00:03:18 minutes slower) and Camera 03 (00:10:18 faster), the other CCTV camera time stamps are confirmed to be accurate", said Patra.
TAUD also used the occasion to display several pieces of evidence used by the perpetrators to commit the crime. These included the acid container, the perpetrator's helmet, which was suspected to have been affected by the acid, and 13 motorcycles and two cars.
In addition to this, evidence belonging to Yunus included a helmet, his bag, jacket, glasses and a motorcycle speedometer that melted due to the reaction with the acid.
Civilian perpetrators involved
Public lawyer Afif Abdul Qoyyim from the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) who is a member of TAUD, revealed that several civilians are suspected to be among the 16 perpetrators who attack Yunus.
"We have analysed 34 CCTV cameras located at the YLBHI, Kontras, the Lokataru [Foundation] and also around the crime scene. Now, [based] on this evidence we found at least a dozen perpetrators suspected of being present in the field which based on the available evidence there is a connection between the perpetrators", said Qoyyim.
"From the presence of the perpetrators which we analysed, there are very clear indications how in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus involved civilians", he continued.
Based on the findings of this investigation, on Wednesday April 8, TAUD filed a Type B report with the National Police (Polri) Criminal Investigations Directorate (Bareskrim) of a suspected premeditated murder and terrorism attempt. The report is registered under number: LP/B/136/IV/2026/SPKT/Bareskrim Polri.
"So, we filed a Type B report with the police namely a report filed or submitted by the victim, in this case in this case Andrie Yunus, represented by his legal counsel", said Qoyyim.
"Why are we doing this? In general we want to participate in uncovering the truth and upholding justice for the victim, primarily Andrie Yunus, through a legitimate and constitutional legal system", he asserted.
Yunus was doused with acid about three weeks ago after giving a podcast at the YLBHI offices entitled "Remilitarisation & Judicial Review of the TNI Law".
The police initially announced the initials of two suspects, but at the same time, the Indonesian Military (TNI) also announced that it had detained four members of the TNI"s Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) who were involved in the attack on Yunus. They are NDP, SL, BHW, and ES.
Meanwhile, TAUD, which is made up of several civil society organisations, said that at least 16 individuals were involved in the attack. TAUD referred to it as an intelligence operation.
Without a clear legal basis or justification, the police transferred the case to the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom). This drew widespread criticism due to concerns that it would lead to impunity for the military soldiers.
Most recently, on Tuesday April 7, the Puspom TNI transferred the case files, evidence and the four suspects in the attack to the Jakarta II-07 Military Audit Office. (fra/ryn/fra)
