Ervana Trikarinaputri, Jakarta – The Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) has confirmed that Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), is in stable condition following a targeted acid attack last week.
Andrie was targeted in an acid attack by unidentified assailants on Thursday night, March 12, 2026, at approximately 11:37 p.m. on Jalan Salemba I Talang, Central Jakarta.
Yoga Nara, RSCM's Legal and Public Relations Manager, stated that while the injuries are serious, Andrie is currently out of immediate danger. "The patient's general condition is stable and not life-threatening," Yoga said in a statement released on Monday, March 16.
Upon arriving at the emergency room in the early hours of Friday, medical teams noted severe chemical burns across Andrie's face, neck, chest, and arms. He also reported significant loss of vision in his right eye. Initial pH tests confirmed the liquid used was a highly acidic chemical.
Medical staff immediately performed emergency irrigation to neutralize the substance. Further assessments revealed that Andrie suffered burns covering roughly 20 percent of his body, alongside level-three chemical trauma to his right eye.
"The exposure caused a sharp decrease in vision and damage to the corneal surface," Yoga explained.
To save the activist's sight, surgeons performed a debridement procedure to clean the damaged ocular tissue and completed an amniotic membrane transplant to protect the eye's surface. Andrie has since been moved to the High Care Unit (HCU), where a multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists and plastic surgeons is overseeing his recovery.
His current regimen includes intensive wound care, antibiotics, and specialized treatment to manage ocular pressure. Yoga added that the hospital is preparing for a long-term recovery process, which may involve further reconstructive surgery to restore his vision.
"RSCM is committed to providing the professional care necessary for such complex trauma cases," Yoga concluded.
