Ervana Trikarinaputri, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed that Indonesia will not join any foreign military alliance, stressing that the nation maintains amicable relations with all countries.

The Head of State further noted that Indonesia maintains a strictly defensive military posture. Prabowo shared these insights during a special interview with Bloomberg.

Indonesia consistently adheres to its "independent and active" foreign policy mandate, as dictated by the 1945 Constitution. This principle obligates the nation to avoid alignment with any power blocs while actively participating in the pursuit of global peace.

"We cannot be part of any military alliance," Prabowo stated at his private residence in Hambalang, West Java, according to a statement from the Indonesian Government Communication Bureau.

Prabowo maintained that Indonesia must stand on its own feet without relying on the power of other nations. Consequently, he argued, the country must build a competent domestic defense capability. "When something happens, we cannot rely on anyone," Prabowo said.

The global geopolitical situation has reached a boiling point following the unexpected joint attack on Iran by the United States and Israel in late February 2026. The military strike on Iranian airspace resulted in significant infrastructure damage and numerous civilian casualties.

The U.S.-Israeli attacks claimed the lives of several leaders of the Islamic Republic, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran subsequently retaliated by deploying waves of missiles and drones targeting Israeli territory and U.S. military facilities throughout the Middle East.

Amid the escalating conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, President Prabowo has offered his services as a peace mediator. He emphasized that all parties must be willing to engage in dialogue to bring an end to the hostilities.
