Nabiila Azzahra, Jakarta – Deputy External Affairs Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS) Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid by unidentified assailants. Andrie was attacked on Jalan Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, March 12, 2026, at around 11:37 PM local time.

Based on KontraS's chronology, Andrie was riding his two-wheeled vehicle on Jalan Salemba I – Talang, Central Jakarta. Then, two perpetrators approached against the direction of Jalan Talang, precisely at Talang Bridge, riding a two-wheeled vehicle suspected to be a Honda Beat automatic motorcycle produced between 2016-2021.

The suspected perpetrators are two men, each playing the role of driver and passenger. "They have the following characteristics: The first perpetrator was wearing a white-blue combination t-shirt, jeans, and a black helmet," according to KontraS's observation on Friday, March 13, 2026.

The second perpetrator, who was the pillion rider, wore a black 'buff'-like face cover, covering half of the face. The second perpetrator was wearing a dark blue t-shirt and blue jeans rolled up to the knees, which appeared to be made of jeans material.

One of the perpetrators then splashed acid towards Andrie, hitting part of his body. Andrie immediately screamed in pain, causing him to fall off his motorcycle.

As a result of the incident, Andrie suffered serious injuries all over his body, especially on his right and left hands, face, chest, and eyes. According to the examination results, KontraS did not find any missing or seized belongings of the victim during or after the incident.

Andrie was immediately taken to the nearest hospital in Jakarta and received emergency medical treatment, especially for the affected eye area. From the examination results, Andrie suffered burns on 24 percent of his body.

The incident occurred shortly after Andrie recorded a podcast at the Legal Aid Foundation's Office (YLBHI) titled "Remilitarization and Judicial Review in Indonesia," which finished around 11:00 PM.

KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya stated that this action was an attempt to silence critical voices in the community, especially those advocating for human rights. Dimas said this incident must receive immediate attention from various parties, including law enforcement agencies and civil society.

He also urged the police to investigate this incident. "The police must immediately conduct an investigation to uncover the perpetrators and the motive behind the attack," he said in a written statement.

Furthermore, he also demanded that the perpetrators be punished to the fullest extent under the attempted murder charge, as referred to in the new Article 459 of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHP). "Considering that splashing acid on the victim can result in serious and potentially fatal injuries," he added.
