Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has formed a task force to accelerate the transition to clean energy in Indonesia. This task force will handle efforts to replace fossil energy sources, such as diesel and oil, with renewable energy.
Prabowo has appointed Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia as the head or coordinator of the task force. "The President has formed a task force team to accelerate energy conversion, and we were given the task by the President as the head of the task force," said Bahlil after a meeting with Prabowo at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, March 5, 2026.
Bahlil stated that the task force aims to convert up to 100 gigawatts of diesel power plants into solar power plants. "Because by converting from diesel power plants to solar power plants, it will result in efficiency in our electricity subsidies," he noted.
In addition, Bahlil mentioned that the task force will oversee the acceleration of the conversion of 120 million motor vehicles from oil to electric power. "We will try to gradually convert to electric motors," said the Chairperson of the Golkar Party.
According to him, the task force will only formulate an energy conversion plan after it is announced by Prabowo today. He hopes that the task force can work with thorough and targeted planning.
Bahlil said that Prabowo wants the energy conversion process under the task force to be completed within three to four years. "Even if possible, it can be done even faster," he added.
The task force formed by Prabowo today was conveyed by the President to his staff in a meeting at the Presidential Palace. In addition to Bahlil, the meeting was also attended by several other cabinet members. Some officials attending the meeting included Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education Brian Yuliarto; Minister of Investment and Downstream and Head of Danantara, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani; State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi; and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
According to Brian, President Prabowo wants to accelerate the conversion to renewable energy so that Indonesia no longer depends on oil imports. "We know that in the current situation, high fuel prices have a significant impact," he said after the meeting.
