Antara, Jakarta – Thousands of Australians who wish to travel to Bali have canceled their trips due to flooding, according to a local chamber of the restaurant and hotel association PHRI.

Bali, also known as the Island of the Gods, is a popular tourist haven among Australians. However, people from the close neighbor appear to be hesitant to travel this time as relentless heavy rain sparked widespread flooding.

"We haven't calculated the exact losses yet, but what is clear is that there have been losses due to the flooding. We have registered thousands of [booking] cancellations from Australian tourists," PHRI Bali deputy chair I Gusti Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya was quoted by the state news agency Antara on Saturday.

PHRI members, particularly those operating in Badung, reported the most cancellations.

"Hopefully, travelers from other countries will not scrap their vacation plans. We are worried about travel warnings," Rai said.

"Because of the canceled bookings, we have lost potential revenue, be it from businesses and hotels. We also lost government tax revenue."

Hotel occupancy in Bali currently stands at 60%. PHRI Bali said that the number remained modest not only because of the flooding, but also because the tourist season had not begun.

The official statistics agency BPS reported that Australians made up the largest share of the Bali-bound foreign tourists. Around 1.6 million Australians had traveled to Bali throughout 2025.
