Hammam Izzuddin, Jakarta – Greenpeace Indonesia Climate and Energy Campaign Manager Iqbal Damanik on Wednesday submitted evidence of an alleged intimidation campaign to Indonesia's National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), including a decapitated chicken carcass and a written threat sent to his home.

The chicken carcass, accompanied by a threatening message, was delivered to Iqbal's residence in Bogor, West Java, on December 30, 2025.

Speaking at the Bareskrim Polri headquarters on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Iqbal said he handed over both the physical evidence and the written note to investigators.

"We submitted the chicken carcass and the written threat," Iqbal said.

Iqbal's report was formally registered by the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation under Police Report Number LP/B/20/I/2026/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI, dated January 14, 2026.

The written message allegedly received by Iqbal warned: "Guard your words if you want to protect your family. Your words are your tiger."

Iqbal filed the report under Article 449 paragraph (2) of Law No. 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code, which regulates criminal acts involving written threats under specific conditions.

He was accompanied by legal counsel from the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD). TAUD representative Gema Gita Persada said the group sought to file a comprehensive complaint addressing what they described as a broader pattern of intimidation against activists and public figures critical of government policies.

In addition to Iqbal, TAUD also accompanied content creator Yansen, who has reported receiving threats after criticizing the government's handling of a disaster in Sumatra.

Gema called on Bareskrim to examine the incidents as part of a broader pattern of intimidation reported since early 2025, citing a case in which a pig's head was sent to the Tempo office and addressed to journalist Francisca Christy Rosana.

"This is no longer a routine form of intimidation. It has escalated into alleged acts of terror that create widespread fear," Gema said.

According to TAUD, the intimidation campaign has targeted activists, journalists, and influencers who have spoken out about the handling of the Sumatra disaster. Aside from Iqbal and Yansen, disc jockey Dony reportedly received a similar chicken carcass threat, while his home was later targeted with a Molotov cocktail on December 31, 2025.

Influencer Sherly Annavita has also reported receiving written threats, and her home was pelted with rotten eggs.
