Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – Two journalists allegedly suffered violence from Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) officers while reporting about the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) kitchen on Tuesday afternoon, September 30, 2025. The incident took place at SPPG Gedong 2, one of the MBG providers, in Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta.
The two victims of alleged violence were Warta Kota journalist, Miftahul Munir, and MNC reporter, Rizki Fahluvi. They were trying to confirm a reported food poisoning case at a public elementary school (SDN) 1 Gedong, Pasar Rebo.
According to Munir, he and Rizki found the location of SPPG Gedong 2 through a Google search. "We just wanted to verify its accuracy," Munir said when confirmed by Tempo via a brief message on Tuesday.
The two went to the kitchen site, and was let in by a security guard. "The officer though I was They then went to the location of SPPG Gedong 2. Munir said a guard then asked him to enter the SPPG building. "The security officer thought I was the MBG food tray dishwasher," he said.
To the officer, Munir mentioned that he wanted to meet the head of SPPG to confirm the case of poisoning that occurred to 20 students at SDN 1 Gedong. But the security officer immediately chased them away upon finding out they were journalists.
Munir and Rizki then waited in front of the building, where shortly after, the SPPG delivery vehicle entered the location.
Munir and Rizki then took out their devices to capture a video. However, they were prohibited from recording the SPPG vehicle by the officer. Munir responded that the officer couldn't stop him from recording. "This is outside, a public area, sir, you can't stop us," he told the officer.
Then, one of the kitchen employees exited the car and approached Munir. According to Munir, the officer explained that SPPG Gedong 2 did not deliver free nutritious meals to SDN 1 Gedong, where the food poisoning case occurred. The SPPG responsible for the school was located elsewhere.
Munir and Rizki were already planning to go and check out another lcoation when one of the officers approached them with clenched fists. "Rizki and I were choked all of a sudden," Munir said.
The other staff members of the kitchen intervened. The security officer who choked Munir and Rizki was held back by the others.
Following the incident, Munir and Rizki filed a report to the Pasar Rebo Sectoral Police. According to Munir, the reporting process was only completed at around 10:00 p.m. local time.
The Pasar Rebo Police confirmed the report from the two journalists about the violence. Tempo is still trying to contact SPPG Gedong 2 to confirm the alleged violence.
The Alliance of Independent Journalists (AJI) Jakarta condemned the actions of the SPPG officers who allegedly hindered journalistic work. "We strongly condemn the violence experienced by two journalists while covering the SPPG allegedly where the food poisoning at SDN 01 Gedong originated," said the Chair of AJI Jakarta, Irsyan Hasyim, in a written statement on Tuesday.
Previously, Pasar Rebo Police Commissioner, I Wayan Wijaya, confirmed the mass food poisoning at SDN 01 Gedong. "Indeed, there were students who were poisoned this morning at 07:15 a.m.," Wijaya said when confirmed by a journalist on Monday, September 30, 2025.
According to Wijaya, at least dozens of students experienced food poisoning after consuming the free nutritious meal menu. "About 20 students felt nauseous, dizzy, and vomited," said Wijaya, adding that one student was rushed to the emergency room (IGD) of Pasar Rebo Regional Hospital for a medical examination.
