Ervana Trikarinaputri, Jakarta – Indonesia's actor and influencer Andovi Da Lopez was among the demonstrators at the main gate of the House of Representatives (DPR) complex on Monday, September 1, 2025. Together with other influencers, he brought demands named "17+8 People's Demands".
The demands consist of 17 short-term points and 8 long-term points. "These demands are based on three important aspects, transparency, reform, and empathy," said Andovi when approached in front of the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
The demands summarize various pressures circulating on social media since the escalating wave of demonstrations on Thursday, August 28, 2025. The government has been given until September 5, 2025 to fulfill the 17 short-term demands. As for the 8 other demands, the government has been given one year.
"Within a week, we demand these 17 demands and 8 long-term demands. There are many," he said. "But the most important one is the establishment of an independent investigative team for the cases of Affan Kurniawan and Umar Amaruddin."
Meanwhile, Jovial Da Lopez, who is Andovi's brother and also present at the demonstration, explained that one of the long-term demands they brought is about the reform or massive cleansing of the DPR. According to him, currently, parliament members are more focused on political parties and their chairmen.
"If we really want a massive reform of the DPR, work for the people, that's it. That's all we want. In this way, if we work for the people, everything will fall into place. That's the truth," said Jovi.
The demonstration in front of the DPR on Monday, September 1, is the latest action in a wave of protests targeting the parliament over the past week. Based on Tempo's observation, the attending crowd represented student organizations such as the Indonesian National Student Movement (GMNI), the Islamic Students Association (HMI), to the Indonesian Catholic Student Association (PMKRI). Other demonstrators continued to arrive until 4.50 PM.
There were three command vehicles lined up in front of the main gate of the building. Demonstrators were also seen carrying various supportive attributes such as posters, banners, and flags.
During the demonstration, the distinctive straw hat from the Japanese anime One Piece was seen hanging around Andovi Da Lopez's neck. He stated that the hat worn by Monkey D. Luffy, the main character in the comic, was a form of protest against falsehood, injustice, and a demand for freedom.
Meanwhile, the complete list of demands called "17+8 People's Demands" is as follows:
17 short-term demands with a deadline of September 5, 2025:
1. Establish an Independent Investigative Team for the cases of Affan Kurniawan, Umar Amarudin, and all victims of violence and human rights violations by other authorities during the demonstrations on August 28-30 with clear and transparent mandates.
2. Stop the involvement of the TNI in civilian security, return the TNI to barracks.
3. Release all detained demonstrators and ensure no criminalization of demonstrators.
4. Arrest, prosecute, and transparently process the members and commanders who ordered and carried out violent actions.
5. Stop police violence and adhere to available crowd control standard operating procedures (SOP).
6. Freeze the salary/allowance increase for DPR members and cancel new facilities.
7. Proactively publish budget transparency (salaries, allowances, housing, DPR facilities) and report periodically.
8. Investigate problematic asset ownership of DPR members by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
9. Urge the DPR Honorary Board to examine members who insult the people's aspirations.
10. Parties must dismiss or impose strict sanctions on party cadres who are unethical and trigger public anger.
11. Announce the party's commitment to be on the people's side in the midst of the crisis.
12. DPR members must engage in public dialogue rooms with students and civil society to increase meaningful participation.
13. Enforce internal discipline so that TNI members do not take over the Polri's function.
14. Public commitment of the TNI to not enter civilian areas during the democracy crisis.
15. Ensure decent wages for all workers (teachers, health workers, laborers, online motorcycle taxi partners).
16. Take emergency measures to prevent mass layoffs and protect contract workers.
17. Open a dialogue with labor unions for minimum wage and outsourcing solutions.
8 long-term demands with a deadline of August 31, 2026:
1. Clean and carry out massive reform of the DPR.
2. Reform political parties and strengthen executive oversight.
3. Develop a fairer tax reform plan.
4. Enact and enforce the bill on the confiscation of corruptor assets.
5. Reform leadership and the system in the police force to be professional and humane.
6. Return the TNI to barracks, without exception.
7. Strengthen the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) and independent supervisory agencies.
8. Review policies in the economic and labor sectors.
