Eka Yudha Saputra, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto stated that while the right to protest is guaranteed by law, demonstrations must follow strict rules, including obtaining a permit and concluding by 6:00 p.m.

"The law states that if you want to demonstrate, you must ask for permission, and permission must be granted, and it must stop at 6:00 PM WIB," Prabowo said during his visit to the National Police Hospital in Jakarta on Monday, September 1, 2025.

He mentioned receiving reports of trucks carrying firecrackers and noted that many police officers securing the demonstrations were injured by them.

"Imagine if a man's vital organ is burned, it's already chaotic. The intention was to burn; trucks were found with tools for burning," he added.

Prabowo also referenced the burning of the Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) building, an institution he described as upholding the nation's sovereignty. "The intention was not to express opinions; the intention was to create chaos, disrupt the people's lives, and destroy national development efforts to eradicate poverty," he said.

Police to pursue and prosecute rioters

In a separate statement, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said police would pursue all individuals who financed the demonstrations that resulted in riots across the country. He had instructed all subordinates to follow the President's orders to quickly restore public security.

"So that the public can resume their activities, and the economy can grow again," he told reporters at the National Police Hospital Soekamto on Monday, September 1, 2025.

General Listyo emphasized that police would search for all perpetrators and prosecute them. "We will draw from the facts obtained and will continue to search for both the perpetrators in the field, the actors, and those who financed everything," he said.
