Hendrik Yaputra, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto called on the public to remain vigilant against groups seeking to create unrest following the death of an online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver who was crushed by a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle during a protest in Jakarta.

"I also call on the entire Indonesian nation to always stay vigilant. There are elements that constantly seek unrest, that want chaos. I must tell the people that such actions bring no benefit to the public, to society, or to our nation," Prabowo said in a press statement broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel on Friday, August 29, 2025.

Prabowo also urged the public not to let such groups create turmoil. The Gerindra Party chairperson promised to do his best for the nation and said he was willing to listen to all public complaints.

"The government I lead will do its best for the people. Every public complaint will be recorded and followed up.," he said.

He stressed that chaos only harms the people and the nation. According to him, Indonesia is currently reforming and consolidating its strength to build prosperity.

"The government will guarantee the livelihood of his family and give special attention to his parents, siblings, and relatives," Prabowo said.

The president expressed confidence that Indonesia will progress and become self-reliant, adding that he believes the country will grow into an advanced nation.

"Our nation is in the process of reform. We are gathering all our energy, strength, and resources to rise and build a strong and prosperous country. One that overcomes poverty and hunger," he said.

Prabowo also apologized for the tragedy that claimed the life of the ojol driver. He expressed condolences and sympathy for the incident and pledged to support the victim's family.

"The government will guarantee the livelihood of his family and give special attention to his parents, siblings, and relatives," he said.

He admitted to being shocked and disappointed by the actions of the officers the previous night and ordered a thorough investigation. "It must also be transparent," he said.

Prabowo demanded that the officers involved be held accountable. If violations are proven, he said, firm legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.

The victim, identified as Affan Kurniawan, died after being run over by a Brimob tactical vehicle belonging to the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. The incident occurred when police dispersed demonstrators on Thursday, August 28, 2025, near the Bendungan Hilir II Flats, Central Jakarta.

Indonesian National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo also apologized for the tragedy. He said the incident would serve as an evaluation for the police in carrying out their duties.

"We will follow up on the events that occurred. I apologize to the victim's family and to the entire ojol community for this tragedy," Sigit said outside the RSCM mortuary early Friday morning.
