Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – Protesters from the movement calling itself the "Indonesian People's Revolution" remained around the MPR/DPR/DPD complex until late Monday night, August 25, 2025.

As of 9:00 PM WIB (Western Indonesia Time), dozens of high school students in gray-and-white uniforms were still seen under the Pejompongan flyover, about 800 meters from the main gate of the Parliament complex.

Some of the students gathered in front of the BNI 46 Tower, while others stood on the nearby railway tracks. At around 9:15 PM, police attempted to disperse them by firing tear gas. Protesters scattered into a residential area beside the tracks, prompting police to fire at least three more canisters of tear gas into the neighborhood.

The action drew anger from Pejompongan residents. "Don't shoot here, sir, we are residents," one local shouted.

Nopan, 28, a resident who was guarding his home during the commotion, said the tear gas also reached his street as demonstrators ran through the neighborhood. "Tear gas was fired here because the protesters fled this way," he said.

According to Nopan, residents were staying alert and coordinating with the neighborhood association to ensure security. "We are still monitoring the situation," he added.

Police officers repeatedly urged the demonstrators to disperse. "Those who are not residents, please go home," one officer announced over a loudspeaker.

Tensions escalated as protesters hurled stones and firecrackers at the police. Officers advanced with shields, forcing the demonstrators to retreat westward along Jalan Pejompongan Raya. By around 9:35 PM, clashes subsided and police withdrew from the location.

The August 25 protest was sparked by viral calls on social media. The "Indonesian People's Revolution" urged workers, farmers, students, and the public to join the demonstration. The invitation, spread anonymously, demanded investigations into alleged corruption involving the family of former President Joko Widodo and called for the impeachment of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"Let's push the Parliament to carry out its function and duty as a check on the government," read one of the messages circulated on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
