Irsyan Hasyim, Jakarta – The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported that wildfires swept through Sumatra overnight, until Monday morning, July 14, 2025.

The Head of Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, said that the wildfire hit Jorong Sarasah Tanggo, Nagari Sarilamak, Harau Sub-district, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra, on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

According to Muhari, the Lima Puluh Kota Regency Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that a 4-hectare area was affected by the fire. The BPBD and joint teams deployed ground and fire suppression, and the fire was successfully extinguished. "The cause of this incident remains under investigation," he said in a written statement on Monday.

Still in West Sumatra, a forest fire hit Jorong Bansa, Nagari Gaung, Kubung Sub-district, Solok Regency, on Sunday. The fire, triggered by extreme weather, blazed through about 1 hectare of land. "The Solok Regency BPBD, together with joint personnel, suppressed the fire with the support of one tanker and one fire engine. The fire was successfully controlled without spreading to other areas," he said.

Meanwhile, in Aceh, a wildfire was reported in Gampong Suka Mulia, Lembah Seulawah Sub-district, Aceh Besar Regency, on Sunday. The fire occurred in an area with young plantations, including cocoa, covering an area of about 2 hectares. The Aceh Besar BPBD deployed three personnel and one fire engine.

"The fire was extinguished within an hour after the incident was reported," said Muhari.

Responding to the growing wildfire cases across the region, BNPB urged local governments and communities to up their vigilance and avoid fire-prone activities, including burning land for agricultural clearing, open waste disposal, or discarding cigarette butts in dry land.

Local governments are urged to strengthen coordination by increasing surveillance through integrated patrols. "Meanwhile, communities are encouraged to swiftly report any indication of fires or smoke to the authorities to prevent fires from spreading into bigger wildfires," he said.
