Daniel Ahmad Fajri, Jakarta – Usman Hamid, Director of Amnesty International Indonesia, urged state authorities, including law enforcement, to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation into the terror attacks on the Tempo office.

"The police must immediately uncover the perpetrators and masterminds behind the series of terror attacks on Tempo," Usman stated in a written declaration on Sunday, March 22, 2025.

He asserted that such terror is an act of intimidation that fundamentally violates human rights as it seeks to instill fear, silencing those who dare to reveal the truth.

Usman underscored these attacks as a direct assault on critical journalism aimed at uncovering the truth to the public regarding problematic government policies and legislative processes within the parliament.

"We condemn these acts of terror, which aim to create a climate of fear among journalists," he stressed.

The recent wave of terror began on March 19, 2025, when Tempo's editorial office received a disturbing package containing a pig's head, conspicuously lacking ears. This package, delivered by a courier bearing the insignia of a delivery application, was addressed to Francisca Christy Rosana, a political desk journalist and the host of Tempo's political podcast, Bocor Alus Politik.

The intimidation escalated as Tempo's editorial office received a second, equally disturbing delivery. On Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 08:00 AM, cleaning staff discovered a box containing the decapitated carcasses of six rats.

Setri Yasra, Editor-in-Chief of Tempo, interpreted the delivery of the rat carcasses as a terror campaign against the newsroom. He noted that this incident followed a threatening message received from the Instagram account @derrynoah on March 21, 2025. The account holder explicitly stated their intent to continue the terror until "your office is shut down for good."

Setri condemned the delivery of the rat carcasses as a calculated attack on the media's work and the press freedom. "The sender deliberately terrorizes the work of journalists," he asserted. "If the purpose is to intimidate, we will not be intimidated, but these cowardly actions must stop."
