Han Revanda, Jakarta – House of Representatives Commission IV Chairperson Siti Hediati Hariyadi, better known as Titiek Soeharto, has raised concerns over last year's imported rice stockpiled in a Bulog warehouse in Yogyakarta, stating that it is now unfit for consumption due to pest infestation.

"During my recent recess and working visit, I led a team to inspect Bulog's warehouse in Yogyakarta. We found that a significant amount of imported rice from last year remains in storage, heavily infested with weevils," said Titiek, the daughter of Indonesia's second president, Suharto, during a Commission IV meeting with the Agriculture Ministry on March 11.

Addressing Minister Amran Sulaiman, she urged the government to take immediate action, warning that the rice should not be released to the market.

"Something must be done about this rice immediately. It's no longer fit for human consumption, so please find a way to utilize it," said Titiek, the former wife of President Prabowo Subianto.

According to National Food Agency (Bapanas) chief Arief Prasetyo Adi, Bulog's warehouses currently hold 1.9 million tons of rice – the highest government stock level in recent years. This includes 124,361 tons of commercial rice and 1,784,753 tons of government rice reserves (CBP), totaling 1,909,114 tons.

Bapanas reported that total rice procurement, both domestic and imported, has reached 103,427 tons, with 70,400 tons coming from the remaining 2024 import quota and 33,027 tons sourced domestically.

As of February 2025, the government has distributed 100,960 tons of rice for price stabilization under the SPHP program. However, further distribution will be paused until the peak harvest season in April. When factoring in emergency relief and the first phase of 2025 food assistance, total SPHP rice distribution reaches 100,960 tons.
