Pribadi Wicaksono (Kontributor), Yogyakarta – Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X has officially issued a gubernatorial instruction letter to regulate the circulation of alcoholic beverages. Policy number 5 of 2024, signed on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, aims to optimize the control and supervision of alcoholic beverages to provide protection, maintain order, and ensure public peace.
This decision follows recent incidents, including the stabbing and beating of students in Prawirotaman last week, allegedly linked to alcohol consumption.
Through the letter, the Governor instructed all district heads in the province to take certain steps to control the circulation of alcoholic beverages. Regional heads are obliged to inventory direct sellers, retailers, producers, distributors, and other entities involved in the alcohol trade.
Regional heads are also expected to ensure that the distribution, sale, and storage of liquors adhere to legal requirements, including necessary permits and distance regulations.
"Business actors are also prohibited from selling alcoholic beverages to individuals under 21," said the Sultan.
The sale of alcoholic beverages through online networks, including delivery services, is also prohibited.
Regional heads are also asked to establish special teams to monitor alcohol circulation, involve community elements, and take legal action against violators.
The Yogyakarta Governor further requested regional heads to report on the implementation of this instruction letter within 15 working days.
