Sella Rizky Deviani, Jakarta – The House of Representatives accepted Wednesday the nomination of Muhammad Herindra as the head of the State Intelligence Agency (BIN), replacing Budi Gunawan who has led the agency throughout the past decade.
House Speaker Puan Maharani said Herindra is the sole candidate for the BIN head proposed by President Joko Widodo.
"The assessment team declared that Mr. Muhammad Herindra is qualified for the BIN head and he will be inaugurated by the incoming president, Mr. Prabowo Subianto," Puan said.
A plenary session on Thursday will officially confirm House approval for Herindra's appointment, she added.
House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said earlier Herindra will be installed as the new BIN head on Monday, only a day after Prabowo takes the oath as the country's new president.
Herindra currently serves as the deputy of Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, who will assume the presidency this weekend.
"We will collaborate will all stakeholders with the sole aim of keeping the unity of Indonesia," Herindra said.
