Riri Rahayu, Jakarta – Indonesian Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, has unveiled the investment-related obstacle hindering the entry of the iPhone 16 mobile phone into the Indonesian market.

He disclosed that Apple, the iPhone manufacturer, has yet to fulfill its investment commitment by a margin of Rp235 billion, thereby impeding the certification of the product's domestic component levels or TKDN.

Apple had previously secured TKDN certification, but its validity has expired. Agus claimed that the process of renewing the TKDN certificate is contingent upon Apple's realization of additional investments.

"Because Apple's investment realization has only reached Rp1.48 trillion, falling short of its total commitment of Rp1.71 trillion," Agus said during the National P3DN Team Meeting and the P3DN Team Communication Forum at Kempinski Grand Ballroom Jakarta on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

He asserted that upon full realization of the investment commitment, Apple would be eligible for a 40 percent TKDN value, thereby enabling the entry of the iPhone 16 and other Apple products using mobile networks into the Indonesian market.

According to the Industry Ministerial Regulation (Permenperin) Number 29 of 2017 concerning Provisions and Procedures for Calculating the Value of Domestic Components of Mobile Phone Products, Handheld Computers, and Tablet Computers, TKDN calculations can be conducted through three distinct schemes.

Firstly, the manufacturing scheme involves the production of products within the country. Secondly, the application scheme entails the development of applications domestically. Finally, the innovation development scheme focuses on the creation of innovative products within the country. In this case, Agus mentioned that Apple is leveraging the innovation development scheme.
