Antara, Jakarta – PT PLN (Persero), through its subsidiary PLN Batam, in collaboration with PT Aruna Cahaya Pratama (Aruna PV), has successfully launched Indonesia's largest ground-mounted solar power plant, Antara reported.

The plant, with a capacity of 100 Megawatt peak (MWp), is located in the Kota Bukit Indah Industrial Estate (KBI) and was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, August 28.

The Director General of Electricity at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Jisman P Hutajulu, hailed the inauguration as a significant milestone in Indonesia's ongoing energy transition. "This solar power plant is a critical development for our future. We hope it will serve as a model for the industrial sector and other business areas," Jisman stated.

Spanning 80 hectares, the solar power plant is operated by PT Aruna Hijau Power (AHP), a joint venture between PLN Batam and Aruna PV. It is expected to generate 150 GWh of clean energy annually, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 118,725 tons of CO2. This project aims to boost the competitiveness of domestic industries by providing green electricity.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo emphasized PLN's commitment to supporting Indonesia's energy transition and industrial growth. "Electricity is the heart of our economy. PLN is not only delivering reliable power but also committed to supplying green electricity to industries, aligning with the government's roadmap to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2060," Darmawan remarked.

The project, which was completed ahead of schedule in just seven months, involved collaboration between various entities, including PT Tatajabar Sejahtera (TJS) as an offtaker and PT Besland Pertiwi as the land provider. Darmawan underscored the importance of such collaborations in tackling global climate challenges and achieving energy security through renewable sources.

AHP President Director Adi Dharmanto expressed gratitude for the project's swift completion and reaffirmed the company's dedication to supporting PLN's renewable energy goals.

Similarly, TJS President Director Kuky Permana highlighted the alignment of the solar plant's electricity production with the energy demands of the Kota Bukit Indah Industrial area, contributing to the government's net-zero emissions target by 2060.
