Jamal Abdun Nashr, Semarang – The Corruption Eradication Commission or KPK once again conducted searches at Semarang City Hall on Thursday, July 18, 2024. This time, the focus shifted to various service rooms and departments within the building complex.
Semarang Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu reiterated her stance on eradicating corruption. She emphasized that it is a collective responsibility, and fostering anti-corruption values within families from a young age is crucial.
"We hope the public will develop a deeper understanding of the detrimental effects of corruption and be motivated to prevent it, starting from the most minor instances," said Ita, Hevearita's familiar name, in Semarang, Thursday, July 11, as quoted from Antara.
Yesterday, the national anti-graft body conducted searches at the office and residence of Mayor Hevearita. The agency also investigated the Semarang City Goods/Services Procurement Agency.
As of today, the Semarang City Government has not released any official information regarding the ongoing investigation. The Mayor has also remained out of public view since the initial searches began.
This is not the first time the KPK has investigated Semarang City Government officials. Earlier this year, inspections were conducted at the Central Java Development Financial Supervisory Agency Office.
Hevearita previously served as Deputy Mayor of Semarang. She was promoted after the former Mayor, Hendrar Prihadi, assumed the position of Chair of the Government Goods/Services Procurement Policy Institute. Initially stating that she would not run for office again, Hevearita has since reversed course and plans to participate in the 2024 Semarang City mayoral election.
