Ichsan Ali, Jakarta – The public prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has demanded a 12-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp 500 million for former Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo, also known as SYL.
The prosecutor believes SYL has been proven legally and convincingly guilty in a corruption case involving extortion and gratification within the Agriculture Ministry. The indictment against SYL spans 1,576 pages.
"We demand the defendant Syahrul Yasin Limpo be sentenced to 12 years in prison," said the KPK prosecutor during the trial at the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court on Friday.
The prosecutor also demanded SYL pay a fine of Rp 500 million, with a six-month prison term if the fine is not paid.
The prosecutor asserted that the total amount of money received by SYL from corruption was Rp 44.27 billion and $30,000, equivalent to Rp 491.3 million, making the total amount received Rp 44.7 billion.
The tens of billions of rupiah were allegedly used for SYL's personal and family expenses, including gifts for invitations, donations to the Nasdem Party, religious events, chartering aircraft, disaster relief, overseas trips, Umrah pilgrimages, and animal sacrifices for religious observances.
