Muawwan Daelami, Jakarta – SEG Solar, a photovoltaic (PV) panel component manufacturer from the United States, is investing over US$500 million (Rp 8 trillion) to build a factory in Batang Industrial Park (Grand Batang City), Central Java.
The CEO of Grand Batang City, Ngurah Wirawan, said that SEG's presence proves Grand Batang City's allure as a prime investment destination for PV manufacturing industries.
"We are committed to fully supporting SEG Solar in building the factory and assisting them in achieving success in Indonesia," said Wirawan in a press release on Friday.
SEG's founder and COO, Jun Zhuge, along with Grand Batang City's CEO Ngurah Wirawan, directly signed the land utilization agreement covering 40 hectares in the Menara Danareksa Ballroom, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
The SEG factory in Grand Batang City is expected to be one of the largest PV manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia, with an annual production capacity of 5 GW for solar cells and 5 GW for modules.
This ambitious project is estimated to create more than 3,000 jobs, providing a significant boost to the local economy and enhancing workforce skills in PV technology.
"Through upstream and downstream coordination, SEG ensures the provision of clean and traceable green products for markets in the United States, Europe, and Indonesia, thereby facilitating the global transition to low-carbon green energy," Jun Zhuge said.
The construction of the SEG Solar Panel factory in Grand Batang City is expected to commence this year and be completed by the second quarter of 2025.
