Antara, Jakarta – Astra International, the authorized distributor of Peugeot vehicles in Indonesia, has announced the discontinuation of Peugeot vehicle sales in the country after 52 years.

"Based on information from Stellantis, the principal of Peugeot, Stellantis has made a strategic decision to halt Peugeot sales in Indonesia. This is part of Stellantis' business growth strategy in the ASEAN region," said Rokky Irvayandi, head of Astra's Peugeot Sales Operation, on Friday.

He emphasized that Astra respects Stellantis' decision regarding the sale of Peugeot vehicles in Indonesia.

Peugeot vehicle sales in Indonesia were halted starting Thursday. Previously, Peugeot focused on marketing the Peugeot 5008, 3008, and 2008 SUVs in the country.

Peugeot and another French automotive company, Renault, entered the Indonesian market in 1972 through Astra's Multi France Motor. The brand was quite popular in the 1990s and early 2000s. However, Peugeot vehicle sales in Indonesia have seen a decline in recent years.

According to data from the Indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo), Peugeot recorded wholesale sales of only 199 units in 2023, and from January to March 2024, only 28 units were sold.

These sales figures are significantly lower compared to 2022 when Peugeot vehicle sales reached 451 units.
