Wahyu Candra, Jakarta – Due to following Google Maps directions, a ride-hailing taxi driver's car plunged into the Cibarengkok River in Mampir Village, Cileungsi District, Bogor Regency, West Java on Wednesday afternoon. Fortunately, the victim was rescued by locals.
According to Beritasatu.com, a sister publication of the Jakarta Globe, the incident began when the ride-hailing taxi driver was picking up a passenger while following directions from Google Maps.
While following the directions, the driver apparently did not notice that the road he was on was a dead-end, leading to the car plunging into the river.
"Earlier, a resident was shouting for help, and it turned out that a car had plunged into the river. The incident occurred because the driver was trying to pick up a passenger and was following Google Maps directions because he didn't know the way. Thankfully, the driver survived," said one resident at the scene.
Police who received the report immediately arrived at the scene to conduct the evacuation. There were no casualties in this accident. However, heavy equipment had to be used for the vehicle's evacuation process because the car was submerged.
