Candra Kurnia, Jakarta – State-owned oil and gas company Pertamina forecasts a 20 to 25 percent increase in fuel consumption during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr holiday as compared to normal days.
Despite this expected surge, Kilang Pertamina Internasional (KPI) Unit IV Balongan, responsible for fuel distribution in Java and Jakarta, assures the public that fuel stocks in West Java, parts of Central Java, and Jakarta are secure throughout the April 5 to 14 travel period.
Mohamad Zulkifli, a spokesperson for Kilang Pertamina, said that Unit IV Balongan can produce up to 150,000 barrels of fuel daily during the Eid travel period.
"Our priority is to ensure that public fuel demands are met," Zulkifli affirmed to reporters on Monday.
He also noted that despite the holiday surge, Kilang Pertamina has prepared fuel reserves ahead of the travel season.
Zulkifli elaborated that the spike in fuel usage for Java typically begins four days before Eid, expected to fall on April 10.
During Eid, Indonesians traditionally journey to their hometowns for family reunions. The Ministry of Transportation estimates that 193.6 million people, roughly 71.7 percent of the country's population, will partake in these travels this year, marking a substantial 50 percent increase from last year's exodus.
