Andriadi Perdana Putra, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo officially opened the Kapuas I Bridge in Pontianak City, West Kalimantan, on Thursday.

In his speech, Jokowi said that the 430-meter-long and 8-meter-wide bridge was constructed with a budget of Rp 275 billion ($17.5 million). The bridge's construction aims to enhance mobility and connectivity between downtown Pontianak and the East Pontianak District.

"This bridge is anticipated to alleviate the frequent congestion in Pontianak City and enhance connectivity between the city center and the eastern region," stated Jokowi.

Furthermore, President Jokowi urged the community to actively participate in maintaining and preserving the bridge to ensure maximum benefits for all.

"To the community, I urge you to collectively maintain and preserve this bridge for the benefit of all," he emphasized.

By duplicating the existing bridge and connecting it to the Kapuas I Bridge, authorities hope to effectively address traffic congestion problems.
