Teras.Id, Kabartamiang.Com, Jakarta – RJ and SL, two residents of Kampung Banjir, Karang Baru, Aceh Tamiang Regency, were sentenced to 100 strokes of the cane for being found guilty of adultery.

Both were convicted of violating the Aceh provincial regulation or Aceh Qanun Number 06/2014 on Jinayat, or Islamic criminal law.

"These two people commit adultery, they are both unmarried. They are sentenced to one hundred lashes," said Andy Zulanda, the Acting Head of the Aceh Tamiang Prosecutor's Office, as quoted from Teras.id's media partner, Kabartamiang.com.

Andy explained that RJ and SL were found to have violated Article 37 paragraph (1) of Aceh Qanun No. 6/2014 on Jinayat Law according to decision number: 27/JN/2023/MS.Ksg dated January 11, 2024.

"The accused have been in detention for two months since we processed the case last January," he added.

Andy mentioned that their act of adultery occurred in January 2024 when they were caught red-handed by residents at a house in the Kampung Banjir area.

"This is the first canned execution in early 2024, with only two people convicted. Until now, there is no queue, we have not received any perpetrators of other jinayat cases," he said.

Syamsul Rizal, Head of the Aceh Tamiang Islamic Sharia Agency, stressed that there would be no reduction in the number of lashes for perpetrators of adultery cases, although the defendants have already served jail time.

In Aceh Tamiang, he said that violations of Islamic Sharia were still dominated by gambling or maisir cases.
